GREENWICH TALL SHIPS FESTIVAL
5TH - 9TH SEPTEMBER 2014
Picture
The Tall Ships Regatta from Falmouth to the Isle of Wight finished with five days of celebrations in Greenwich.  Over 50 sailing ships of all classes were moored along the Thames from Greenwich to Woolwich Royal Arsenal, including 24 at Wood Wharf on the Isle of Dogs.  The Union Wharf Garden at Ballast Quay was open to the public and provided a splendid viewing platform for the spectacular Parade of Sail and the many other events, including magnificent firework displays.  The Thames was filled with ships of all kinds and the event gave a sense of how busy the river must have looked like when the houses on Ballast Quay were first built some 200 years ago.

The tall ships will return again to Greenwich in 2017, when they will muster here before setting off to sail the Atlantic as part of the 150th anniversary celebration of the Canadian Confederacy.

Dar Mlodziezy, a Polish sail-training ship and the largest
of the tall ships taking part in the Regatta was moored at
